Unit 7 focuses on Statistics, focusing on differentiating Measures of Center and Measures of Variability. In this unit, identifying and forming Statistical Questions is a focus, while understanding how to Summarize Data and understand their Distribution Shapes. Measures of Center such as Mean, Median, & Mode, and Measures of Variability such as Range, I.Q.R., & M.A.D. are covered in detail. Furthermore, data sets are summarized using Quartiles with Box Plots, and Frequency Tables & Histograms.

7.1

Statistical Questions & Data Shapes

This lesson is designed to help learners identify and construct Statistical Questions and understand the main Distribution Shapes of collected Data as Centered, and Skewed Data sets.

7.2

Calculating Measures of Center & Variability

This lesson is designed to help learners differentiate Measures of Center (Mean, Median, & Mode) and Measures of Variability (M.A.D. & Range) and Calculate them to summarize a data set.

7.3

Using Box Plots to Summarize Data

This lesson is designed to help learners understand how to take a data set and summarize it using a Box Pot using a 5-Number Summary, while also calculating the threshold for outliers. The 5-Number Summary includes the Minumum, Lower Quartile, Median, Upper Quartile, and Maximum. In addition, the I.Q.R. is calculated as a Measure of Variability.

7.4

Using Histograms & Frequency Tables to Summarize Data

This lesson is designed to help learners understand how to take a dataset and summarize it using a Frequency Table and Histogram. Data is sorted into Intervals/Bins, and their Frequency is measured along the Vertical Axis. Data Distribution Shapes are discussed, as well determining which Interval the Median is located within.
